The Body Shop VIP Bloggers Event | Westfields, Stratford

If you’ve been around for a while, you’ll know that I am most definitely not a beauty blogger, but when I was invited to the Body Shop VIP event, I couldn’t say no! I have used the Body Shop products for years and years, it was one of the first brands I ever bought from (old-school body butters and lip balms FTW!). The event was held at Westfields Stratford, and I had the loveliest evening.

It started off with James who had organised the entire evening, giving us some background on the Body Shop and some info on some of the new products, as well as the amazing news that they had finally been able to get the 8 million signatures in order to go to the United Nations and try and get the laws around testing on animals changed – which is just amazing news!

After that, we were free to shop! We were given a 30% discount for majority of the items in store and if we spent over £25, we were given a free gift!

Here are some of the things I bought:

The free gift was an Almond Milk and Honey Shower Cream: £5 and an Almond Milk Body Yoghurt: £8.50 – the Almond Milk scent is my favourite, it’s super light and subtle, and the Body Yoghurt was one of my favourite products that I’ve ever tried from the Body Shop! It absorbs into the skin so well and doesn’t feel sticky like some body moisturisers do.

Pampering Yourself: 10 Top Tips for a Spa Day at Home

Man this post has been a ~long~ time coming!

If you’re a longtime reader of The Dizzying Heights, you will know that I’m a huge lover of self-care. It’s so important to take time out for yourself and reconnect with the things you love doing that you may not have time for in your busy schedules.

I try and do a self-care routine every week (may be excessive for some people, but I look forward to my Self-Care Sundays!). I chose Sundays because I generally don’t have plans to go out on Sundays so it’s the easiest day of the week for me to have a lie in and take care of myself. So I thought I would share my top tips for the ultimate pamper day and with the bank holiday weekend on our doorstop, you have no excuse not to indulge!

So here are my 10 top tips for having a lil’ pamper day of your own (obvs you can pick and choose / amend these to things that make you feel good etccc)!

1. Face Mask

I mean, this wouldn’t be a pamper day without a face mask would it?! They are one of my all-time favourite things to do on a chill day. I have ~quite~ a few face masks now, most of them are from The Body Shop – they really do have some of the best face masks on the high street – but if you have any faves that you think I should try, please do leave me a lil’ comment below! I quite fancy making my own face mask out of things that I have in my kitchen so when I get a chance, I shall definitely pop a recipe up on my blog! 2. Eye Mask

I was sent this really cool eye mask* from Feel Good Contacts, and as soon as I opened it, I couldn’t wait to try it! I knew it would make the best addition to my chill pamper days! I also love the colour, it’s a gorgeous aqua blue and to me it’s the colour of calm – perfect for a day of relaxing. It helps with puffy eyes and headaches, and you can also use it hot (by warming it up in the microwave for up to 20 seconds) or cold (by freezing it for up to 2 hours). I tried it cold, and it had such a nice cooling effect. For anyone who regularly gets headaches or migraines, definitely give it a try!

3. Hair Mask

In keeping with the theme of masks so far in this blog post (!!!), a hair mask is a must for me on a pamper day. I love having a clean face, and a clear head, so why should my hair be any different? I will be writing an updated version of my haircare routine, as I have acquired a lot of new haircare products, but leaving a hair mask in my hair 20 mins before washing and conditioning it just makes it so softer and feeling more healthy. One of my most simple and favourite hair masks ever is full fat mayonnaise – incredible! But this other home-made hair mask that I use is made using:

– 1/2 cup honey

– 2 Tbsp olive oil

– 1 egg yolk

– 1 whole avocado

You could eat it if you wanted to, not sure if you’d want to but you have the option!

4. Manicure

I’m often a rubbish excuse for a girl, and most days I wear no nail polish because my nails smudge or chip almost straightaway so I just think there’s no point sometimes! But when I’m having a pamper day, I like going the full hog and pushing the boat out so I do like giving myself a manicure. I also love watching nail art videos on Instagram, especially the bit where they paint the clear top coat, so satisfying to watch!

5. Foot Soak

If I’m going to treat my hands, I might as well treat my feet right? Our feet walk us around all day, and I don’t know about you but I rarely treat my feet to any kind of relaxation. I do have a foot massager, but I use this great 15 min foot soak that you can basically make with things you have lying in your kitchen. It makes my feet feel super soft and relieves muscle pain.

– 1/2 cup mouthwash

– 1/2 cup vingar

– 1 cup water

Feel free to paint your toenails after thoroughly drying your now fabulous feet!

6. Having a Bath

This list of things certainly isn’t a timeline of events! I actually am not the biggest fan of baths, I prefer a quick 15 min shower to do everything I need to. But when it comes to relaxing, I do think that having a bath is one of the best ways to do it. I personally can’t have the water too hot, otherwise I start sweating and let’s face it, that’s not fun for anyone! Throw some Radox in there and you have yourself a par-tay (not really, you have yourselves a bath, but you get the point).

7. Water + Lemon + Mint

When you have a hot bath (like I can’t stand), I have to have some cold water besides me so that I don’t overheat! I always pop some lemon and mint in there, basically because that’s what they serve at the spa ha. But it genuinely makes water tastes super fresh and I love sippin’ on this! I usually leave the mint and lemon to infuse in the fridge overnight, but it doesn’t matter if you add it last minute either!

8. Candles

You’ll know I’m a huge candle fan based on the insane amount of candle blog posts I’ve done on this blog (read them here and here) so I won’t be banging on about why candles are so amazing – you already know that! So if you need to relax, you can’t go wrong with lighting a couple of lovely scented candles and enjoying the ambience.

9. Netflix & Chill

Giving this phrase a whole new meaning! If you haven’t noticed me banging on about how much I love sticking Netflix on, then where have you been?! Depending on what you’re watching (see my recommendations here and here), it can make you feel super chilled, and there’s nothing better to unwind from a long week!

10. Sleepy Tea

I’ve spoken about this amazing tea before (read that post here), but to finish off the best pamper days mean getting the best night’s sleep. Everytime I drink this tea before bed, I have the most peaceful sleep, and wake up refreshed and energised for the day ahead. When you do this routine on a Sunday, it’s perfect because it preps for you the week ahead!

Senssē Beauty Goodies

Throwing it back to the beginning of this year (8 months ago, can you even believe it?! Where has this year gone?!) I made a promise that I would start looking after my skin a bit more. As well as drinking more water and getting fitter, I wanted my skin to just generally be better, and I wanted to feel more confident wearing less make-up, having more make-up-free days etc.

So I was very excited to find that I’d been sent not just one, but two new products* from the Senssē Beauty range! My first impressions were that the products look so stylish, they came in white boxes with rose gold writing and it felt very luxurious.

Silicone Facial Cleansing Brush:

There are two main elements for it: the deep-cleansing side, and the anti-aging side. It also has 6 different vibration settings, and the light turns on when you’re using it. The recommended time is 15 seconds on each part of your face so it doesn’t take very long at all, which is really handy if you’re in a rush, and is also a handy little reminder to move on to the next part of your face – so useful because we all know that time just runs away sometimes! It is also waterproof upto 1m, so you can use it in the shower/bath, which you will very much appreciate if you’re like me and sometimes forget to cleanse (oops!).

I really liked how this made my skin feel, and I also think it’s so nice having something to make your skincare routine more exciting, because I genuinely couldn’t wait to use this every morning! It also came in a beautiful pink glittery bag, and I can’t wait to take it away with me.

Hot and Cool Facial Bar

I was more intrigued to try this facial bar because I’ve never seen or used anything like it before. With this, you charge it on the USB and it tells you it’s ready by using three different coloured lights.

I used this in the evenings after removing my make up. As the name suggests, it has two different elements to it: the hot mode and the cold mode – I know it’s shocking! I used my favourite cleanser which is the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, and dotted it around my face. Then I activated the Hot Mode with vibrations, which felt amazing. My skin felt so energized and plumped, and I also felt like my moisturiser sat better and absorbed into my skin so much nicer.

After activating the Hot Mode, it was time for the Cool Mode setting. I was more excited for this because I much prefer cooling my skin down rather than heating it up. The Cool Mode was definitely my favourite part of the process. It was just a refreshing feeling and I really enjoyed cooling my face down. The Cool Mode is also supposed to help firm the skin and reduce wrinkles. I personally don’t have many wrinkles (thankfully!) so I can’t say if this helped or not, but my skin has felt a bit firmer!

I think for my everyday skincare routine, the Cleansing Brush will definitely be making more of an appearance then the Hot and Cool Facial Bar, just because I think the Hot and Cool Facial Bar is something I’d use for when my skin needs more of a pamper.

AA Skincare Shampoo Bar Review

I’ll admit that when AA Skincare wanted to send me one of their shampoo bars, I was the teeniest bit dubious. I have heard of shampoo bars*, and I have heard good things but I was so nervous to try it because I’m so used to liquid shampoo (aren’t we all?), but I’m so glad I gave it a try!

The shampoo bar that I chose out of the 8 (listed below) was called Life Style and it was suited for an itchy, flaky and dry scalp which was perfect for me as I have been suffering from dandruff for a little while now and Head and Shoulders really isn’t working!

The bars are made of natural ingredients and 100% essential oils. As this is a bar of shampoo, it is meant to last double the amount of time as a liquid shampoo. I was so intrigued about this because for a 50g bar this is pretty impressive!

It’s also really simple to use. All you do is lather it up in your hands and then apply it like you would with your normal shampoo. You can either leave it for 2-3 mins or rinse straightaway.

I have to admit that I haven’t seen any drastic changes in my dandruff, but then again they haven’t promised anything, and my hair does feel really soft! I also love the fact that you’re not wasting any product either, as sometimes I can be quite heavy-handed.

Current Skincare Routine

Skincare was something I promised myself I would work on this year and I have been sticking to this for around a month now and I have been trying really hard with it, so I thought it was about time I share it with you guys. I’m not claiming to be a skincare blogger or anything, but this is a routine that has been working for me for a while now. Also, my skincare routine is usually only at night, I only use moisturise in the morning.

*Disclaimer: As with any skin care regime, it’s important to do a test patch first. Everyone’s skin is different so do not continue if your skin does not react well.

Moisturisers

In the mornings and after a shower, I like to use Argan Oil on my skin. I find this so great for my skin, it soaks up all the moisture and leaves me skin feeling so smooth. My make up also sits really nicely. I love that you can use it everywhere, I even use it as a hair mask which I fully recommend!

I also use the Day Cream*, it’s very soothing and light on your skin, which is really nice to have on during the day. Also, I know it’s anti-ageing but to me that is actually quite nice because it’s important to start looking after your skin from a young age. It’s also great for sensitive skin and has lasted for ages!

It’s not pictured but I also frequently use E45 for skincare too, I really prefer it as a hand cream, especially when it comes to winter months so it’s not really applicable now as we finally have some sun in London but I thought it was worth mentioning. The only thing that frustrates me about E45 is how long is takes to absorb into the skin, but the results that I have seen on the dry patches of my skin are unreal, so I’m willing to let it slide!

Cleanser

Taking my make-up off used to be such a chore and now I literally look forward to it so much (lol I’m such a loser). I’m not one to follow the crowd, but even I have to admit that the Liz Earle Cleanse + Polish is just as good as people say it is, if not more. In fact, I may be a little obsessed. It is just the easiest way to remove my make up and leaves my skin feeling super soft. If you haven’t used it before then I fully recommend it, all you do is apply the product on your face, massage in circular motions leaving your eyes last. Then you rinse the cleanser cloth in warm water and use it to remove the polish from your face. Pat your face down with cool water and voila – make-up free skin!

Exfoliator

After I remove my make-up, I like to exfoliate, removing the dead skin from my face using my favourite exfoliator which I’ve raved about in previous blog posts as well. It smells super fresh and lemony and always leaves my skin feeling really silky.

Toner

I don’t know if this is the ‘right’ way to do things but this is the part of the routine that I use my toner. This is something that I have only recently been using but I actually really enjoy this part of the routine. It’s amazing how much make-up still comes off with my toner. Using my toner is how I actually know that my make-up is completely removed and my face feels totally refreshed.

Serum

After the toning step, I like to use a serum as well as a normal moisturiser, just because I want a deeper hydration of the skin, and a serum penetrates deeper into the skin. I still use a small amount of moisturiser because a serum doesn’t actively protect the skin against the environment like moisturisers do. This Kathleen serum is really lovely, smells like watermelons and I feel like it works quite well, but I do think it’s quite pricey for what it is. However, my usual serum [pictured above, second from left] I do feel like works better for my skin, as it is more gel-like in consistency and I feel like it sinks better into my skin. The serum is also a part of the bigger skincare collection which I adore because it includes the exfoliator and the toner.

Eye Gel

Not sure if this really counts as skincare but I don’t use a proper eye cream for my eyes, and when I feel like my eyes need a bit of refreshing, I use this gorgeous eye gel*. I find it so cooling and relaxing. Every once in a while it is really great to use.

Face Mask

Obviously I don’t use a face mask everyday but once every fortnight I feel like it’s one of the best things ever. It always leaves my face feeling extremely clean and refreshed. The only thing I don’t like about this mask is that it doesn’t smell great but that is because it’s a natural product without many added perfumes so that’s a good thing. I like how quickly it dries as well and you never need a lot of product so it lasts for ages.

Lip-balm

After my skincare routine, I always apply my favourite lip-balm. This stuff is a godsend, my lips are so smooth and it also smells amazing, like cherries. It also lasts for ages and is super cheap – super recommended!
