Travel Handbag Essentials | AD

It’s no secret that I love to travel.

I do, I just love it. Whether that is jetting over on the other side of the world to Hong Kong or hopping over to Paris for the day, I honestly feel like I have learnt so much over the years about the art of having a (mostly) smooth and relatively chilled journey.

Like everyone else, I always start off my travels by packing, and I did write a similar post on my previous blog about this topic but I wanted to do a new and refreshed version about what to pack / what is in my handbag when I travel.

It’s a lot easier when you are travelling on a long-haul flight as you can take hand luggage as well and you don’t have to worry about liquids as much, but on short-haul flights I often don’t pay for a larger suitcase and just take all of my essentials in a smaller suitcase.

I do find packing my handbag can sometimes be the most difficult job! This isn’t just what to take with you to the airport but also what to have in your bag whilst you’re travelling around the city you’re going to.

1) Passport & Tickets.

You’re not going to get very far without your passport & tickets. These are the first things I pack and I make sure that they are in a zip pocket or somewhere easily accessible. The last thing you want to do is to be fumbling around at the airport trying to find your passport! I’ve been there & done that – not fun! I also carry my passport around with me when I’m abroad, I know some people don’t like to do that but I never feel comfortable leaving it in a hotel. I also have a super cute passport case from Aspinall that I received for my birthday ūüôā

2) A Book/Kindle.

I got a Kindle for Christmas and I have been loving it. I much prefer a real book because its just nicer, but I’m such a fast reader that one book would be finished in a few days (or hours, depending on how bored I am!), and I can’t carry around 3/4 books so a Kindle is perfect for me. The battery is amazing too, I used to use iBooks but as we all know the battery on iPhones are rubbish!

3) Chargers.

Speaking of batteries, they are not the most reliable, especially iPhones so I take my chargers with me so that I can charge them on the planes, or thinking in a worst case scenario, you can charge your phone / electricals if your luggage gets lost! I also take a battery pack with me because more often than not all the plug sockets in the airport are busy!

4) Headphones.

There’s nothing better than losing yourself in a world of music, especially when you’re either flying or waiting for your flight, which is why I always pack my headphones with me. It also helps when you don’t want to talk to the person sitting next to you!

5) Comfy Trousers + Socks + Hoodie.

Basically my go-to travel outfit! I hate sleeping / sitting in one seat for hours wearing a smart outfit or jeans. I always take either a pair of leggings or comfy trousers on a flight with me so that I can actually sleep and not feel horribly uncomfortable. Flight socks are also a must, nothing worse than cold feet on a flight! And imagine going into the bathroom with no socks on.. Ewww!

I am always freezing when I fly so having a hoodie with me is always a must. Take your cosiest one with you, because you never know when you’re going to need it! Depending on how big your handbag is, this may not be ideal but you can always tie it around your waist or throw it over your shoulders if you want to look really cool.

6) Contact Lenses / Glasses.

I know not everyone wears contact lenses / glasses but for anyone who does, it’s an absolute must to bring your glasses case and contact lense case! It might sound obvious but I have forgotten them a few times and I’ve had to stay awake to try avoid sleeping with my contact lenses in.

7) Lipbalm + Hand Cream.

My skin can get super dry when I’m flying so I always keep my Aloe Lips in my handbag because it’s so hydrating for my lips and you can also dab a bit underneath your eyes to keep them looking fresh. I’ve written a blog post all about the Aloe Lips here, so you can read all about it! Having a hand cream in my handbag is an absolute must, I always feel so much for having hydrated hands!

8) Purse.

Kind of an obvious one but I always take a condensed version of my purse with me when I go away, because realistically you’re not going to need your Costa card or your Tesco Clubcard when you’re exploring a new country are you? I take a card-holder that has my credit card, spare cash and my driving licence if I don’t bring my passport in case I need some ID.

9) Wipes.

You never know when these will come in handy, and at the risk of sounding like my grandma (the wisest of owls), you should always be prepared for the worst. Especially true when you’re travelling to the unknown!

10) Mini Perfume / Deodorant.

As much as I enjoy flying, I’m always conscious of feeling sticky or smelly and its just not a nice feeling. That’s why I always keep a mini perfume or deodorant in my handbag for before you land in your destination. I usually stock up in Boots at the airport (3 for 2 anyone?) – so handy!

11) Hand Sanitiser.

I always have this in my bag regardless of whether I’m flying or not, I think I just love the scent of mine so much! I don’t use it every two seconds or anything, I’m not one of those people, but I do think it’s handy especially when on a plane or airport because its a public place and therefore can be extremely unhygienic.

12) Camera.

I know not everyone owns a camera, as most people use their phones these days (myself included), but when I’m going abroad on holiday especially, I do like to take my camera with me. You never know when it will come in handy and I love taking candid pictures of my family and scenic photos for my blog.

13) Chewing Gum.

Again, just for freshness and feeling comfortable, I would definitely keep a pack of chewing gum in my bag. You might not even use it as I used the toothbrush and toothpaste instead after I slept for a few hours, but its just in case!

14) Blister Pack / Plasters.

For me, this is more for when you are walking around when you’re abroad, because I’m a big walker and I try and avoid taxis if I can because I think it’s so much nicer to see the local sights when you’re walking around. And if you happen to be wearing shoes that irritate your feet / toes then it’s nice to have some sort of blister pack or plasters. Also, plasters could be used for any minor scrapes or cuts that may happen (it’s always good to be prepared).

15) Paracetamol.

Lol this is such a motherly thing to have in your bag but yes I do carry this around. If you know me personally then you’ll know I rarely take medication so if I ever do take paracetamol for any reason then you know it’s serious! I think I carry these around for others because I’m so nice *angel face* ūüôā

There is nothing worse than feeling or getting sick when you’re on holidays. That’s where YourLegalFriend.com* comes in. They have over 30 years of experience in the legal industry and are specialise in accidents and illnesses abroad. They aim to ensure their clients receive compensation for any kind of distressing holiday experiences that could have serious repercussions for their health. Although there is a stigma attached to pursuing a claim, Your Legal Friend don’t want people who have genuinely suffered holiday illnesses to miss out on what they are entitled to because of a minority.

Claiming for illness while on holiday is covered by something called:

‚ÄėThe Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations Act‚Äô

which means if something you’ve paid for is not as expected, fails to meet standards or causes you illness or injury while on holiday, you can make a claim. Food borne illnesses are covered by this only if you paid for an all-inclusive holiday package where you never ate outside of your hotel.

To make a claim the person should have:

  • Had an illness that lasted at least 5 days
  • Had an illness that started at least 48 hours after arrival
  • Had an illness that started within 72 hours of returning home
  • Booked their holiday package through a UK tour operator
  • Evidence a complaint was made to the tour operator or hotel while on holiday
  • Evidence of any medical advice or treatments you purchased while away

¬†So that is it for my travel handbag essentials! I hope you enjoyed reading this post and hopefully I have given you some ideas of things to put in your handbag when you travel. Let me know if I’ve missed anything out in the comments below and hopefully you can refer back to this post when you pack for your next trip!

Jewellery Haul

I’ve been such a jewellery hoarder recently that I knew I had to write a post about all the amazing bits that I’ve been buying for the past few months. I’ve been doing so much shopping (anyone else buy themselves Christmas prezzies whilst Christmas shopping online? No? Me neither…)

New Look Necklace – Being Indian, I am always on the hunt for stylish jewellery pieces that would look great with Indian and English clothes. Even though this necklace has hints of navy blue in it, I loved the old world look with the dirty gold and it’s chunky but not over the top. Plus it was only ¬£7, which I thought was a bargain!
P.S. I couldn’t find the link for the actual necklace on the New Look website so I’ve linked their jewellery page instead – happy shopping!

Lavish Lockets*¬†– I was sent these beautiful lockets a wee while ago, (you may have seen them feature on my Instagram page). They were just so beautiful not to be included in this post. The lovely ladies over at Lavish Lockets¬†personalised my lockets before they sent them over, which was such a nice touch. They put a little ‘D’ initial, a plane, a bathtub, a high heel and a little pearl. It is so cute!
Elephant Necklace – Before I even start with how adorable this necklace is, IT WAS 99p. YES under a ¬£1! I honestly couldn’t believe how bloody cheap it was! And also, look how cuteeeeee! I’m so obsessed with elephants recently, I have my eye on this gorgeous elephant mug and some elephant duvet covers. Too far? Let me know in the comments.

Primark Chokers – I hear that this choker trend will die out in 2017 but I hope it doesn’t! Chokers take me back to 00’s, and I love reliving my youth. These ones from Primark were only ¬£1.50 and I love the burgundy one to wear to throw in a bit of colour.

Autumn¬†Bracelet* – I was recently sent this lovely bracelet by Rebecca at Bristol Papillon. I love how unique it is, and everything is handmade and used with natural materials which I really like. I like the copper in this but also that it’s on a silver chain so it’s not copper overload. I also have a discount code to use on the Bristol Papillon website [BLOGTENOFF] – happy shopping!

Lifestyle Blog Necklace*¬†– I was kindly sent this beautiful necklace by the lovelies over at Lifestyle Blog UK. I really love the chain, it’s like studded almost? Sorry if that’s not the right word for it, but it’s very different and I really like that. The pendant is a rose gold and silver flower design with diamonds encrusted in the centre of the flower. It’s very minimal and something that you could wear everyday if you wanted to.

Cherry Diva necklace¬†–¬†Like I mentioned above about styling Indian outfits, this is also a necklace that I would definitely wear with Indian clothes but could also be worn with English clothes too. I love how sparkly the diamonds are, and it’s also very affordable. I did some Christmas shopping over at Cherry Diva and they always had discount codes and the delivery was also super quick. Highly recommended!

What I Got For Christmas | 2016

I didn’t know if I was going to write this post because I get worried that people are going to think that I’m showing off what I got but I did a poll on Twitter¬†and it got (mostly) yeses, and to be honest I love reading posts like this because I’m a nosy cow and it gives me loads of ideas to buy things for people. I’ve linked as many things as I can down below, if I haven’t found the product online then I’ve linked a similar item, so if any of you want to do some shopping it’s a lot easier!

Also, apologies¬†in advance, because I have forgotten to take pictures of some of my presents, mainly because I’ve either been using/wearing it non-stop or I couldn’t find it to photograph it (whoops).

Okay, I’m babbling, so let’s get on with it!

Cluse watch

Jack Wills jumper

Naked basics palette

Hair oil

Slipper socks (similar)

Benefit Brow Kit

I was so happy when I opened my Naked Basics palette, the colours are so Autumnal and I love my Naked | and Naked Smoky palettes so I knew I’d love this one!

I don’t own any clothing items from Jack Wills so I was very pleasantly surprised with this sweater. It’s so perfect because sometimes those thick jumpers get really hot!

I also received this Benefit Brow Kit, which I’m so excited to use. I love doing my brows but I don’t like them to over-filled, so this ‘Natural Brow Kit’ was perfect for me!

Christmas isn’t Christmas without a pair of fluffy socks, and I love these! I needed a few pairs of socks this winter anyways so these were perfect for me.

I loved this hair oil; my hair rends to get very frizzy and this is something that I hope will help. I love this brand so I can’t wait to start using this!

Lastly, I got this gorgeous Cluse watch, it’s the grey strap with the rose gold design. I had my eye on the marble face but this would have been the next best thing so I’m so happy with it!

Onesie (similar)

Chelsea boots x2

Rucksack (similar)

Scarf (similar)

Kat Von D liquid lipstick (Lolita)

I can’t post a picture of my onesie as I’ve been living in it for the past few days but it’s so fluffy and comfy! It’s the grey (bunny-eared) one from Primark, so if you can find it, I would fully recommend getting it!

I’ve been needing a pair of Chelsea boots for ages, so I was so happy opening these black ones, in both suede and normal black. They are going to be used so much!

¬†I’m actually obsessed with my¬†blanket scarf, it’s huge, it’s cosy and¬†it’s just¬†perfect for winter.

I was so excited to open¬†this Kat Von D liquid lipstick in the shade ‘Lolita’, I’ve had my eye on it for a while now, I think the colour is beautiful and I don’t own anything by Kat Von D so hopefully this will let me build up my collection!

I also received a black rucksack which I was really happy with. It wasn’t my usual style, but I think it’s a really practical present which I will hopefully get a lot of use out of!

Merakhi oil

Mini Motherpucker Lipglosses

These twisted hairbands were so cute, they are twisted so they don’t kink your hair when it’s straight. SO helpful!

Ever since I watched Nishi V’s video on how she got rid of her dark circles, I knew I had to get my hands on this oil. I hope it helps me.

I have been wanting a Sexy Mother Pucker Lipglosses by Soap & Glory for ages. They plump up your lips so expect lots of pouty Instagram posts!

Zoella Bath Salts
Zoella Body Mist

I participated in a Blogger’s Secret Santa this Christmas, and it was honestly amazing. I met so many lovely fellow bloggers, and everyone was so welcoming. We had a budget, and I had the best time shopping for my Secret Santa! For my present, I received two Zoella Beauty products. I hadn’t used anything from the Zoella Beauty range before so it was actually quite nice. I really love the scent of the Body Mist, which I didn’t think I would! Looking forward to using the bath salts now!

Letter candle

Rose gold ring holder (similar)

Slippers (similar)

I also participated in a¬†Blogger’s Christmas Swap, which was also so fun. For this, I only had to get to know one person who was my Blogger Pair. She was so lovely and I’m so glad that I got to know her! She got me this gorgeous ‘D’ candle, which smells insane and I can’t wait to burn. I also received this beautiful pair of slippers, which are so insanely comfortable and cosy! I have been living in these recently. Lastly, I got a rose gold rhino-shaped ring holder, which is adorable and I’m so excited to start using it!

So, thats everything I received for Christmas! What did you get for Christmas?

I’d love to see what you got, so if you’ve done this kind of post, please link it below!

Goodbye 2016, Hello 2017

I honestly can’t believe this year has gone so quickly and I am SO excited to see what 2017 brings. I feel like I have achieved so much this year but a New Year is such a perfect¬†opportunity to give yourself goals to work towards. I’ve split my goals into two categories:¬†personal and blogging.
Personal Goals
Declutter:¬†I don’t think there is a better time to prepare for a fresh start to the new year than by decluttering. This could include just tidying your room, sorting out that bag of old clothes for the charity shop that you said you were going to do ages ago, or rearranging the book shelf or windowsill that always manages to collect random bits no matter how much you try and keep it clean. I love doing things at any point when I walk into my room and feel anxious at how full it feels or untidy it is, but at the end of the year it just makes sense to start the year with a clean slate (or room). Once I’ve cleaned and decluttered my room, I legit always feel 10x happier, it gives me such a sense of calm!
Closure:¬†Now this could be a personal one for you, but for me it is about not harbouring any bad feelings towards anyone. Any negative thoughts or energy is ultimately going to affect me and my life, so I would like to try and fully close the chapters that took a tumble this year. I’ve learned a lot from these relationships and I don’t regret anything, but I do believe it is time to put these to bed and leave them in 2016.
Reflect:¬†This is such a big thing and I honestly don’t do it enough!¬†Reflecting on big and small¬†achievements alike is so important to see how far you’ve come. I love this little blog and whilst I am no Zoella, I should feel proud of myself when I hit certain milestones or achieve things that I never thought I could. I might even start¬†documenting these achievements; although I¬†don’t want to ‘show off’, so I’ll think¬†about this! I want my blog to be a¬†positive place, ain’t got no time for haters!
Blogging Goals
Go to a blogger event: I really want to attend an event next year, I think it will be such a great experience for me and it slightly relates to number two on this list as well. If you follow me on Twitter, I tweeted¬†recently that I felt like my anxiety would make it really¬†difficult to attend a bloggers event, but¬†the support that I¬†received was amazing and I felt so reassured. I need to push¬†myself past it and I know it’s something that will make me much stronger!
Make more blogger friends: I think going to a bloggers event would make this easier, but I really do want to make some blogging friends. When I started out, it was very difficult not to just follow a million bloggers and tweet them and hope to magic up a friendship out of nowhere. Recently, I have been a bit more strategic and follow those whose blogs I read and enjoy, and that way when I do tweet them it will feel more genuine. I also joined a few groups, and tried to participate in as many blogger chats as I could. Such a good tip for anyone wanting to have good interesting conversations and to get your blog out to more people!
Quality over quantity: I want to make sure that I post content that I¬†am happy to be up on the Internet, and that was one of the reasons that I didn’t¬†participate in¬†Blogmas this year,¬†because I knew I¬†wouldn’t have enough time to prepare and I didn’t want to post for the sake of posting! I also want to care more about my content and my photography, rather than stats. I have tried very hard not to look at how many hits my blog gets because it’s so off-putting!¬†
What are some of your goals for 2017?

Ice-skating at the Natural History Museum

One of the things on my Chrismas Bucket List was to go ice-skating, just because it makes me feel so Christmassy. I love London anyways as I was born and bred here, but at Christmas time it’s so lovely and holds such a special place in my heart.

We originally wanted to go to Somerset House but it was all booked up so we decided to go to NHM instead, as it was another place on my list. It was so beautiful, even though we went during the day so next time I want to go in the evening and stare at all the lights forever and ever.

I really don’t think I’m a very good skater, but I try every year just because the adrenaline rush is amazing and you’re never going to be the only one who’s struggling on the ice, believe me! It usually takes me around 10 minutes to shuffle along the ice and then I gain a little bit more confidence, and the next thing you know, I’m gliding along like a pro! (Only joking, I lean forward a bit and feel really cool, until I nearly fall flat on my face and have a mini heart attack. Oh, life!)

In all honesty, it is one of the most Christmassy things that I like to do and it is like a proper work out as well, so make sure you treat yourself to a hot chocolate afterwards (that’s the way those calorie things work right?)

Have you been ice-skating yet? Where did you go?
