What I’m Watching on Netflix Right Now. Pt.2

If you read my previous blog post on What I’m Watching On Netflix Right Now then this post will not come as a surprise to you. There are always so many good things to watch on Netflix and these kinds of blog posts have become my favourite to read as well, because it’s a lot nicer to watch a series or a film based on someone’s recommendation.

Jane the Virgin

First has to be Jane the Virgin, it was recommended to me by my little sister who had heard it was a light and easy watch, and I have to agree! It seems a little crazy at first, but it’s so easy to get into and even though the storylines are a little far-fetched, it’s such an interesting watch and I will be the first to admit that I totally get sucked into them! The show basically starts off with Jane being accidentally artificially inseminated (!!!) with her boss’ sperm… told you it was crazy!

Asian Provocateur

This show is absolutely hilarious! Okay so Romesh Ranganathan is such an amazing comedian, his humour is dry and deadpan and it makes me laugh so much! This programme basically follows Romesh to Sri Lanka where he meets his family members and does cultural things to try and get more in touch with his roots. I can’t even tell you how funny this show is, I love his humour so that’s probably why I find it so funny, but you should definitely give it a try if you haven’t watched his stuff before!

This is something I started watching after having seen a trailer for it on Netflix, and when I saw that it was only 10 episodes long, I figured that it would be an easy series to watch. I did not know what I was getting myself in for! The show is actually German, so you can either watch it in German with English subtitles or as English dubbed, which is how I watched it. The premise for the show is centred around time travel, but it is so crazy! Also for anyone who stopped watching after the first episode, it does take about two episodes to fully get into it, or at least that’s how it happened for me! So interesting.

When We First Met

At the end of the previous blog post I wrote, I said that I wanted to watch more movies, and this one was a Netflix original that my sister and I decided to watch after having decided that the trailer looked fun. It has Adam DeVine (from Pitch Perfect) in it as the main guy who basically is in love with his best friend who is getting married to someone else. It is cleverly made and extremely cute and just a really enjoyable and easy watch.

Ahhhh I’ve loved this show ever since the first episode when Mike Ross impresses Harvey bloody Specter whilst playing Solitaire on his laptop. I just love their legal world, and I think this season is going to be good even if Meghan Markle is leaving to become a Princess ~not jealous at all~ and yeah even though Suits has had its ups and downs over the seasons, it has always been a good watch and it never fails to let me down. If you haven’t seen it before, you should definitely give it a try – Harvey Specter is a beaut!

Call the Midwife

Okay I’m so behind on this seeing as it came out on the BBC about 6 years ago lols, but it’s so addictive! I love programmes that are set years and years ago, seeing as I wasn’t around in those times, it’s so interesting to watch. This show is basically centred around midwives in 1950’s East End of London, and is loosely based on memoirs from a real midwife from that time. It’s so fascinating and the stories of some of the families are so amazing, they really tackle some great issues that are still issues in our everyday life.

Another BBC classic that I didn’t get the memo about! Luther came out about 8 years ago and it’s about a London detective who always gets too involved in his cases, and always manages to get out of sticky situations by the skin of his teeth. It doesn’t hurt that Idris Elba is a wonderful actor, and completely gorgeous! I always love when things are set in London just because it’s my hometown!

The Shawshank Redemption

Remember how I said I wanted to watch more movies? This one was perfect, and I couldn’t believe that I’d never seen this before! As a huge lover of prison films and documentaries, this was just incredible. The film came out in 1994 (my birth year FYI – it’s like it was meant to be!), and it’s all about Andy Dufresne who gets a life sentence for a murder that he didn’t commit. In the prison he makes friends with Morgan Freeman and the story kicks off from there. Amazing!

If you read my last blog post, you’ll know that I watched the entire 2 seasons of The Office, and I bloody loved Ricky Gervais and his stand-up show came up as a suggestion as I finished The Office. Oh-em-gee it’s actually genuinely hilarious. He makes risky jokes but I find them so funny, it’s his entire way of telling a joke that makes his humour so compelling. I find it so attractive but that’s another story for another time…

I find these blog posts so much fun to write, so if there are any shows or films or Netflix that you want me to watch and give you my opinion on, then do leave me a comment below.

Adagio Teas Review + Giveaway

Being British, I just love a cup of tea. At home I drink a few cups and it’s just a soothing part of the day. It’s the time when I can chill and relax, have something sweet and take a breather for myself. So when Adagio* got in touch and asked if they could send me some teas, I jumped at the chance.

Adagio absolutely spoiled me, and I had so many amazing teas to try out! I got a selection of loose teas to try – including some Harry Potter themed teas which I was SO excited about!

Adagio’s teas are natural and I love the fact that their website is very educational on loose teas, because I’m used to making a cuppa with a teabag! So it gives you the option of buying a teapot to make the perfect cup. It also has articles on what the difference is between loose tea and teabags, how to prepare your tea and even what food tastes well with your tea – it’s actually such a good read!

The Harry Potter teas really impressed me, in fact I didn’t want to use them at all because they’re so pretty to look at! The names are all so clever, and my favourite was the Pumpkin Potion ~yum~

They also do Doctor Who and Game of Thrones themed teas, as well as a few other popular show-themed teas, I just think the idea is so clever!

(also definitely keeping that Veritaserum for when I need my sisters to tell me the truth hehehe)

If you’re looking for a new tea brand, you should definitely check Adagio out and if you participate in my giveaway that is now live, you may just get that chance for free! Yes you read that correctly (this might just be the worst segway ever but I’m rolling with it)

Adagio Teas are giving away a huge selection of teas and equipment to one lucky person! All you have to do is be following me on Twitter and Instagram and retweet this tweet to be in with a chance of winning!

T’s & C’s
The giveaway is UK only.
It is open from the 01/05/2018 until 11.59pm 12/05/2018.

Secret Scent Box Review + Discount Code

I’m a huge fan of mini’s. I just love them. They’re so bloody cute, whether that’s bath products, candles or perfumes. I think perfumes are my ultimate faves; it is so handy to be able to pop something in your tiniest bag and knowing that you are safe from bad odours (lols).

So when the Secret Scent Box* got in touch and asked if I’d like to review their April box, I basically jumped at the chance. Three mini’s to pop into three different bags?!

Y-e-s p-l-e-a-s-e!

Secret Scent Box is a monthly fragrance subscription box that delivers 3 x 3ml of designer fragrances, aimed at either female or male scents, depending on the box chosen. You can also choose to gift someone a box too!

Delivery is free and one thing I really liked is that the box is small so it can fit through the letterbox (so handy when you have silly companies leaving your packages outside *ahem*), and also you can cancel anytime! I love the fact that you’re not tied down to a contract.

It’s also so nice to be able to discover new fragrances, I’m tempted to buy a bottle of the Joop Femme, it smells so delicious! It also doesn’t break the bank, with the subscription starting from just £13 a month.

Secret Scent Box also gave me a discount code so that anyone who purchases their first box with my code DIZZYINGHEIGHTS15 will give you 15% off your first box!

Basically I think this is a lovely little treat for yourself, so do let me know if you decide to splash out!

Getting Personal with Printiki + Discount Code

3C7494B7-1E2E-4132-AAA6-62AA4DAF1BF3.jpegIf you’re a long-time reader of The Dizzying Heights, you’ll know that I very rarely write gift guides on this blog. I get that it can be super helpful, but honestly, a lot of the time I just can’t seem to find the time to photograph a lot of different products. You will also know that I am a lover of anything personalised (like this one here and here)

So when Printiki* got in touch and asked if I would like to create a blog post about their prints, I jumped at the chance. I feel like my day job (which I am currently writing a blog post about for you guys to get to know me better), doesn’t really allow me to be too creative, so whenever a cool brand gets in touch and asks me to create some cool content, I always get really excited because it allows me to try and think outside the box.

The theme I chose when creating my post for Printiki, was women in my family.

Women in general, are heroes. We go through so much and we deserve our recognition. I love the women in my family and with International Women’s Day having just passed us, I thought this was the perfect time to do something nice for them and I thought the prints would be a cute little gift because the memories I have of my family are the best.

Best of all, I have a discount code that will give you free shipping, so knock yourselves out and think about treating your loved ones with a personalised gift, or just brightening your room up!

Use code YUTDBXHM for free shipping!

What I’m Watching On Netflix Right Now Pt.1

My dream job would be watching Netflix, I just love it. I even download episodes and films to watch on my commute to work. It’s so bloody handy! I thought it would be nice to do a little post about what I’ve been watching, because I personally love reading posts like this and getting new recommendations of what to watch. Most of these will be programmes, even though I love watching the films, I generally watch the same kind of romantic, lovey-dovey films ha – so if you have any great films that you’ve watched on Netflix then please do let me know!

The Crown

Okay first has to be The Crown. If you haven’t watched it already, then what are you waiting for?! I’m a teeny bit obsessed with the Royals, I just find them fascinating. Season 1 begins with King George VI and then the coronation and current reign of our Queen Elizabeth II, and it is just brilliant. Being that the Queen was crowned in 1952 and waaaay before my time, I find it so amazing to watch and read up on all the Royal gossip after each episode. Also Claire Foy is just so perfect as the Queen, she won’t be in Season 3 unfortunately and I can’t see anyone else playing the Queen but we will have to see Olivia Colman lives up to the role!

Peaky Blinders

Oh-em-gee. Two words: Thomas Shelby. Well, first of all he is absolutely gorgeous. Secondly, the show is about gangsters. What is not to love?! It’s set in 1920’s Birmingham and follows the Shelby family in the aftermath of World War I. It’s so crazy and intense, so much fun to watch. I think Season 1 was my favourite, it makes a great binge-watch. Season 4 isn’t on Netflix at the moment, and I got so annoyed that BBC iPlayer took Season 4 off before I got a chance to watch it!

Grace and Frankie

This recommendation came to me from one of my best friends, as an easy-to-watch and entertaining programme. I watched the first episode and fell in love with the characters, the plotlines, everything! It’s subtle comedy and I find it hilarious. I have been likened to the character of Frankie (which I’m not sure is a good thing or not), but I find her so funny so I’m going to take it a good thing! Grace is played by Jane Fonda who looks so good for 70! I won’t give away the story but it’s about two friends who find themselves in an unlikely situation!

The Sinner

The Sinner was one of those shows that when it first came out, everyone was watching it and talking about it, so naturally I wanted to see what all the fuss was about! At first, I really didn’t get it, but that is the beauty of the show is that it pulls you back in every time. I just desperately wanted to know what the story was, so obviously I continued watching. The story focuses on young mother Cora Tannetti, who commits a very violent and public stabbing, with no explanation as to why.

Alias Grace

This was a show that came up as a recommendation after watching The Sinner, and it was such a strange programme but I am sure that some of you will love it! It’s a psychological thriller based on Grace Marks and the 1864 murders of Thomas Kinnear and his housekeeper Nancy Montgomery. Very interesting and at the end of every episode I was so confused so I wanted to carry on watching. It can be quite scary (or maybe that’s me being a wuss), but I would love to know what you think!

I mean, I couldn’t write a post on Netflix without mentioning one of the best programmes ever: Friends. I know some people think that this show is now so dated (which to be fair it is, it came out in 1994 – when I was born, eeeek!), and the jokes are maybe not what would be acceptable in this day and age, but in all honesty, I couldn’t care less! I loved it when I was growing up and I still love it now. It’s a bloody classic and I’ve watched every episode hundreds of times and I don’t regret one second!

(Although there are a lot of plotholes which will forever haunt and p*ss me off.)

Gossip Girl

Another bloody classic. I could watch this on repeat all the time (often happens, I won’t lie!). When I went to New York in December, I made a point of visiting a lot of the Gossip Girl landmarks, because even though Friends was set in New York, it wasn’t filmed there and so I knew I had to visit some of GG’s hotspots! I just love the show, it’s full of hot gossip (who would have thought?), and tons of amazing fashion. There are also loads of famous cameos too, and even though Blair and Serena have more fights than you can count, it’s brilliantly entertaining.

The Office

Another recommendation from a friend, and this is exactly my kind of humour, Ricky Gervais is just so funny. He has that dry sarcastic kind of humour and it just makes me die. It’s set in a typical office environment in England, and it’s like a documentary-style programme – so brilliant.

Wild Child

Last but certainly not least, it’s the only film on the list! Wild Child is one of my all-time favourites, it’s about an American brat who gets sent to an English boarding school. I love her hair salon moment, and Freddie is so hot! You just can’t help but root for her, even if she was really annoying at first. Typical rom-com, but an all-round girly, feel-good film!
