I know Valentine’s Day is not for everyone, and it is also very commercialised (trust me I know, I share my birthday with the damn day!), but I also think that it encourages people to make effort and give yourselves and your partners a lil’ treat! You may or may not agree, but as much as I do sometimes wish it wasn’t my birthday on the same day, there is something a little bit cute about it.

I know that not everyone has a lot of cash to splash, especially to endorse a commercialised holiday such as Valentine’s Day but if you do want to do something and not break the bank, I’ve split these suggestions into ‘Budget Ideas’ and ‘Higher End Ideas’ to make it easier!

Budget Ideas

Organise a Scavenger Hunt – I love this idea so much, it can be tailored to any kind of budget, and you can be as creative as you like! It could be around your house, around your garden or even as adventurous as around your town. If you wanted to, you could leave little presents at each checkpoint instead of a big present at the end – it’s totally up to because you can customise it!

Outdoor Cinemas – This is all the rage now especially around London, and I think this is a lovely idea. When it’s chilly you can snuggle up to your significant other and watch a romantic movie. I know the prices can range from about £12 to £30 per person, so if you can spare it then it is definitely worth it. I visited the Winter Garden outdoor cinema in Clapham Common before Christmas to watch The Holiday and it was so cute! I really want to visit the Backyard Cinema next!

Dinner & a Movie – This classic date idea is a classic for a reason. If you’re feeling a little bit broke then you can buy fresh ingredients and make something from scratch, such a good idea because it shows that you put effort into it! Also now that Netflix and Amazon Prime are so readily available, I don’t really buy DVD’s anymore, but if you have a favourite movie as a couple, it might be a good idea to invest so that you can always watch your favourite movie with your favourite person (alllllll the cheese).

Volunteer – Everyone needs a little love at this time of the year, and I have been donating a lot of time recently to various different charities and homeless people. Maybe organise a day that you can spend some time volunteering at a soup kitchen or a homeless shelter and give something back together. I’ve volunteered at Crisis London many times, and it’s a fab thing to do.

Build a Fort – Just because we’re adults, that doesn’t mean we can’t behave like children sometimes! Get some blankets, pillows, fairy lights and set up in front of the TV with lots of films and you’re sorted! Bonus points if you have red wine, cheese and crackers, turn it into a lil’ indoor picnic and go wild!

Higher End Ideas

Salsa Class – I used to take salsa classes through my office until the teacher couldn’t teach the class anymore. I found it so much fun and with the right partner it can be very sensual. If you haven’t done anything similar to this with your partner then it can be a great way to have some fun and relax after a long day at work. It can also get your super fit so get booking a class and shimmy the night away! There are lots of options, especially in London, so LondonSalsa is a great place to start!

Spa Day – I am in love with spa days, I think they are the perfect way to relax and with options to have couples massages, it is the nicest way to spend an afternoon with your beloved. They can be quite pricey so keep a lookout for any cheaper deals you can find. I know SpaBreaks always have some good deals.

Wine Tasting – If you read my ‘What I Got For Christmas 2017’ you will know that I received a voucher for a wine-tasting experience, and I just think it’s such a great idea to do something like with your partner. Obviously it’s a bonus if you and your OH like drinking wine, but even if you didn’t it might be the perfect opportunity to try it and see what you think. Either way, it’s something totally different and fun!

Cooking Class – This would be my ideal date night, maybe that is because I just love cooking and it really does soothe me. But also, I think it’s quite cool that you can learn a some new recipes. It’s quite sweet that you can go home and make that kind of food again and again and always be reminded of a cool date! Groupon always has some great deals on.

City Break – This can definitely be a pricey one, especially if you want to leave the country and visit a European city for example, but there are plenty of lovely cities in England that would make for an amazing weekend break, such as Oxford or Bath. You can always look for cheap airline deals online, and look for Air BnB‘s instead of fancier hotels.

Bonus Date Idea

Lastly, you can re-create your first date. Now this is a bonus date idea because everyone’s first date is totally different and of course different budgets. But generally if it’s something you can re-create, such as a cinema and a pizza date, then why not? It’s such a romantic idea and it will show that you’ve thought about it and put some effort into the idea.

So those are my Valentine’s Day Date Ideas! Which of these are your favourites? Do you have any plans for Valentines Day?

It’s no secret that I am a candle lover. I love that warmth and lovely scent that a burning candle gives off, and there isn’t a room in my house that doesn’t have a candle living in it.

However, with flowers I’m not completely there yet. I can definitely see the appeal, but I get annoyed when the flowers die quickly, and I feel like there is a lot of faff getting them in a vase and looking great in the first place!

My Mum is a huge fan though, so when Prestige Flowers* got in touch and asked me if I wanted to review a Valentine’s Day bouquet, I couldn’t resist getting a ‘lil treat for the most important woman in my life.

Prestige Flowers are an online flower delivery service, who can send out flowers for same-day delivery before 3pm and next day delivery before 9pm. Each bouquet is arranged by their Head Florist who has over 25 years experience, and only the best quality and freshest flowers are used in all of their bouquets, so you can’t really go wrong! As well as beautiful flower bouquets, they also sell a great range of other gifts, such as wines, beers and chocolate bouquets, to fruit crates and cheeses. Check out more of Prestige Flowers’ gifts here.

I was so impressed with how quickly the flowers arrived and it’s so helpful for Valentine’s Day! The actual flowers were stunning, they were 12 red roses with rose-gold ruscus (every bloggers’ dream am I right?!), and lot’s of green foliage that would look incredible in anyone’s front room, no matter the decor.

My flowers also arrived with a box of chocolates (I’m trying to eat better, but even I couldn’t resist these!), and an adorable little teddy bear called Harry. How bloody cute! I think that this would make a perfect little Valentine’s Day surprise.

What do you think of these flowers? Will you be sending flowers this Valentine’s Day?

I think a lot of people are under the illusion that Valentine’s Day has to be this super gushy romantic day. However, if you’re a single lady and don’t want to be reminded of how gushy this day can be, why not organise not just any old girls night in, but the ultimate girls night in?

~ The Pamper ~

My first tip for the host or if you want to bring a gift, is to purchase some skincare bits. I love girly sleepovers where everyone can put on a face mask and just ~chill~. In fact in my opinion, that’s the whole bloody point of them! My ideal skincare gifts would be some beauties from L’Occitane. I have loved this brand since I was about 13 years old, and I received a hand cream from my neighbours one Christmas (!!!), I just think their packaging is beautiful and their products are well worth the money. I’ve highlighted a few things that I would love to splurge on for my best girlfriends and I, but L’Occitane* have some stunning ‘gifts for her’ on their website that would relax even your most uptight mate! My suggestions would be the Neroli & Orchideé Body Care DuoNeroli & Orchideé Body Care Duo which smells delicious, or the Divine Ritual Collection which is full of minis – who doesn’t love minis?!

The Settings ~

I love the idea of making your house into a spa-like environment, so fuzzy robes would be ideal to hand out to your gal pals and letting them totally relaxxx. You could also tell them in advance to wear pyjamas because you know for sure that’s what I’d be wearing! These PJ’s from Boux Avenue are my faves!

Of course, no gathering of mine would be complete without a candle, I just think it sets the ambience so well, and with a lovely clean fresh scent, your house can smell just like a spa. If you read my ‘What I Got For Christmas | 2017’, you will know that another favourite candle of mine is one from the White Company. Honestly, spa-like candles are beautiful, and so easy to find!

The Entertainment ~

I am going to write a whole post about what I’m currently watching and loving on Netflix, but there are some amazing girly movies and original series’ on right now (Cillian Murphy is a bloody dreamboat), and it’s perfect to have on in the background, whilst having a ‘lil gossip and catch-up with your friends.

If you don’t fancy watching a film, then you could play some board games! I love a good board game, and I feel like we don’t play them enough, especially this close after Christmas! As long as no-one in your friendship group is not overly competitive (we don’t want the Monopoly board to be tipped over – yes there is usually always one!), but it is a really nice way to spend an evening, and it’s also a good way to ensure that you don’t spend the whole time on your phones! My fave board games are Articulate, Monopoly, the Logo Game and obvs Cluedo!

The Goodies ~

You can’t have people round and not provide some grub. This is probably my favourite part of having people over, I’m a feeder and I love shopping for food! I would buy lots of mini’s, hamburgers and hot-dogs, as well as lots of crisps and dip! The possibilities are endless!

As much as I’m trying not to snack, I would buy lots of chocolatey goodies and ice-cream – you can’t beat Ben & Jerry’s cookie dough!

You need to hydrate (lol) so why not make a huge batch of cocktails? I’m currently doing Dry January so it would be mocktails for me! I did a Christmas-themed cocktail post in December so leave me a comment below if you would like a new cocktail post because I had so much fun writing that post! Also you could definitely use some of the recipes from the Christmas Cocktails post, because a few of them are red and pink and look very Valentine-y (not that you have to make pink/red drinks but it could be cute!).

This would be my ultimate girly night in! Are you planning a girly night for Valentine’s Day? What kind of things do you have planned?

Happy New Years Eve! Every year I like to reflect on the year, and this year has been full of ups and downs. I find this such a useful tool to look back on everything that has happened and all the things that I would ~like~ to happen in 2018. 2017 has been a blur, it has gone so bloody fast! It has been a year filled with love, travel and made some incredible memories with the most amazing people.

I started off the year with my very first solo trip to Berlin, and discovered that I could be my own travel companion and still have the best time! I wrote a post all about it here. Berlin was also last trip I took before starting my new job – eeek!

February 2017

I celebrated my 23rd birthday which I wrote about here, with my closest friends and family. It was a chilled evening and I had a lovely time. I find birthdays quite overwhelming because I share it with Valentines Day and it sometimes sucks, but when you have the right people around, it never matters.

March 2017

March was all about family time, and my Mum, my sisters and I had the most amazing spa day. It’s no secret that I love a spa day, it’s the ultimate relaxation and occasionally you need those days to not think about anything apart from rejuvenating. I didn’t write a blog post about this particular spa day, but this is the same spa I visited last year, which you can read about here.

April 2017

In April, I went to my first ever bloggers event, which was the Bloggers Who Brunch event, I had mixed reviews about the event itself, but ultimately I did what I said I wanted to do. Read more about it here.

May 2017

Day 1 - 14

I went to Rome in May, and fell in love. Rome quickly became my favourite city in Europe, which says a lot! I honestly couldn’t have had a better break, I had such an amazing time and took some beautiful pictures, which you can have a nosy at here.

June 2017

June saw me travelling again, this time to a hen do in Marbella. I didn’t write a blog post about this time because it was a personal trip and I didn’t feel right to post about it. It was an incredible trip; my first visit to Marbella and it was actually so much fun! Ocean Club was a definite highlight, their pool parties are infamous and for all the right reasons!

July 2017

In July, I visited Stockholm, Sweden, where some of my family live, so it made for a nice little weekend break. I love the concept of Fika which is big in Scandi countries, you guessed it, I wrote a little blog post about it, which you can find here. Stockholm is one of my favourite cities in Europe, it’s definitely pricey but very beautiful.

August 2017

I got asked to review a beautiful pub in Twickenham in August, which was such a great opportunity for me and my little blog. This was one of my first blogging ‘jobs’ and I had the most amazing time. As per usual, I wrote a blog post about it here!

September 2017

Another month, another trip. This time I visited Cancun, Mexico. It was such a relaxing trip, and one of the most incredible hotels I’ve ever been to. Read more about Cancun in the blog post I wrote here.

October 2017

In October, I got to visit the lovely London restaurant the Delauney. I’ve been wanting to visit this beautiful place for years now, and I got to have brunch here for my sister’s birthday. The staff were amazing and the food was delightful. Could not recommend enough!

November 2017

November saw me ticking off another place in London, this time it was the Ned. This is super close to my workplace in London and it didn’t disappoint. The food was lovely, everything was expensive and we couldn’t go to the underground Vault bar because it was Members Only. But it really was a stunning location, if you’re ever in London, I would pop in for a drink.

December 2017

Last but by no means least, December rolled around. My favourite month of the entire year. As you will know, I wrote a blog post about visiting what is now one of my most favourite cities in the entire world: New York City.

I also had the best Christmas with my family and I can’t believe that this year has gone so quickly. We’re almost into a New Year and I can’t wait to make more memories, to travel a lot more and to grab every opportunity that comes my way.

What were the highlights of your 2017? I’d love to know, so do leave me a comment below and let me know.

I wish you all a very Happy New Year!

First of all, I’d just like to say a huge Merry *belated* Christmas to you all! I hope you all had the most magical day!

So I wrote a ‘What I Got for Christmas‘ post last year, and it was one of the most popular posts I’ve ever done, so I really wanted to do it again this year. I love reading these kinds of posts, I feel like it give you so much inspiration for future presents and I’m generally quite nosy and I like to know what other people got for Christmas hehehe.

I’ve tried to link everything I could find, anything I couldn’t find I’ve tried to link something similar. Enjoy!

Water Bottle

Elephant Mug

Naked Heat Palette

Ted Baker Purse

Wine Tasting Experience

Hollister Tracksuit

I was so happy when I opened my water bottle. It’s made of glass and I’m so glad that I have this now, it’s so much better for the environment to use less plastic – I think David Attenborough would be proud!

I’ve had my eye on this beautiful mug from Urban Outfitters since about 2 years ago, I love it sooo much! I’m obsessed with elephants, so I was literally the happiest person ever when I opened this! The little trunk bit is where you can put the teabag (or a biscuit) – tell me that’s not the cutest thing ever!

I always get some make-up for Christmas, mostly because I never want to buy any make-up myself (have you seen how expensive make-up is?!), so I was super excited to see the beautiful Naked Heat palette underneath my tree this year. I receive a new Naked palette every year so it has also become a Christmas tradition for me.

I needed a new purse so I was very excited to open this on Christmas morning. I’m not the hugest fan of this colour combo so I may exchange this for a more classic colour, but I don’t think I’ve ever owned anything from Ted Baker so it’s a lovely addition to have!

I absolutely love the idea of gifting people with experiences or days out, it’s such a nice idea having something to look forward to later in the year. Wine-tasting is something I’ve been wanting to do for absolutely ages, so I cannot wait to try it! Something tells me I may be a pro…

I really like clothing from Hollister, but I do find it expensive for everyday stuff. I really like this beautiful tracksuit, I love comfy clothes to lounge around in, so this is perfect for me!

Benefit Brow Kit

Aspinal Card Holder

White Company Candles (Winter + Cassis)

White Company Cashmere Socks

Last year I received a lovely Brow Kit from Benefit, and I love the fact that it’s a little kit so that you can keep everything organised. It comes with a conditioning primer, a brow pencil and a high brow pencil. You also get a mapper which makes filling in brows so much easier!

I have an Aspinal passport holder which I received for my birthday this year and I absolutely love it! So I was overjoyed to receive a classic Aspinal card holder, it’s so pretty! I do love Apsinal products, they are pricey (which is why I love receiving them as gifts hehe), but they are so worth the money. The quality is fantastic!

I bloody love The White Company, and I’m unashamed to say that I hate spending money in there because everything is so beautiful and well above my price range! So when I received a few prezzies from there, I was so excited! I got two candles, one smaller votive candle in the scent ‘Winter‘, which is one of my favourite ever scents (also very apt for our current season), and a bigger candle in the scent ‘Cassis‘, which I’d never smelled but it smells bloody delightful and I cannot wait to start burning them!

As well as the candles, I also received a pair of gorgeous cashmere socks from The White Company, and I have never owned anything so soft! This is my first ever cashmere anything, so the excitement was real!

Video Light

Egg Poachers

I think I may have *screamed* when I opened this present! It was given to me because I complain all the time that by the time I get home, it’s too dark to take pictures for my blog! I cannot wait to use this, I really hope that it helps me!

Probably the most random gift I have ever received lol, I basically love eggs in the morning (who doesn’t?!), and basically when I poach them, 20% of the time they don’t come out perfectly (understatement of the century). So now I have these gorgeous egg poachers so that I can have perfectly poached eggs 100% of the time ~yay~

I love getting clothes such as this lovely black jumpsuit as gifts, because it’s so classic, and also it can be dressed up for special occasions and dressed down to be more casual. I don’t think you can go wrong with clothes like this, and it fits! Also I do apologise that I couldn’t photograph the jumpsuit, I did try and all angles just looked weird (how do fashion bloggers do it?!), hopefully you’ll see me wearing it on Instagram soon!

Elephant Friendship Bracelet

Satsuma Soap

Christmas Memories Tealights

love elephants, as I’ve mentioned before. They are my favourite animals in the entire world. So imagine my excitement when I opened up this adorable friendship bracelet. I literally don’t want to take this off ever, it’s so pretty. Whoever said jewellery had to be expensive?!

The Body Shop is one of my favourite brands, so I was so happy when I received this lovely satsuma soap. I haven’t tried anything from this range and it smells bloody delightful! I also never buy soaps from The Body Shop, I’m more of a shower gel kinda girl myself, so it’s always nice to try something new.

Need I say more about Yankee candles?! If you are an avid reader of The Dizzying Heights, you’ll know that ~a lot~ of my blog posts are about candles, so there really isn’t anything more perfect than the gift of candles. I love tealights because they’re so easy to burn and they’re perfect for baths. These also smell fabulous!

So that was everything I received for Christmas! What did you get for Christmas?

If you’ve done this kind of post, I’d love to read it so please do leave a link below!
