Matilda the Musical: A Review

I have mentioned countless times on my blog that I absolutely adore going to the theatre. As I work and live in London, in all honesty I can’t imagine a better date night than a pre-theatre dinner and a wonderful show!

So when London Box Office* asked me to review a show I’d been wanting to see for years, I couldn’t well turn them down now could I?! Matilda is one of my all-time favourite books and films, and I was so excited to watch this in the theatre!

I had an amazing seat, but I had the tallest guy sat in front of me which was ~slighly~ annoying, but what are you gonna do? It was based on the book as opposed to the film, which I should have been expecting but I wasn’t, purely based on the fact that I’d watched the film much more recently than I’d read the book. But it was actually really good that they did base it on the book, it was around first!

I found the actresses who played Matilda to be super talented, but in my honest opinion, her voice grated on me. The real star of the show is Ms Trunchball, played by David Shannon to be completely and utterly brilliant, just the real highlight!

I’d highly recommend watching Matilda, especially if you loved the book and the film. Perhaps you could drown out the sound of Matilda’s whiny voice, after reading this post, you can’t say I haven’t warned you!

Have you ever watched Matilda? Did you enjoy it?

*I was kindly gifted this ticket from London Box Office. As usual, my views are my own. Please see my disclaimer for more info.
